Talking Book World Canada first opened in 1996. We are a Canadian owned and operated company.
Our first retail location opened in November 1996 in North York, Ontario with our second location opening in January of 2003 in Mississuaga, Ontario. Our stores specialize in renting and selling audiobooks. We are dedicated to providing the best audiobook services available and improving people's lives through audiobooks.
We now have two great retail stores in the Greater Toronto Area, an excellent mail rental program that services all of Canada, and unique corporate programs for companies looking for ways to improve the quality of their employees. Our rental programs are carefully thought out to help ensure you get the maximum value and highest level of service possible.
We don't believe audiobooks are meant to replace reading, but rather are a supplement to it. You can enjoy listening to audiobooks whenever you don't have time to read: while driving, walking, exercising, cooking, knitting, or any time you're doing something that doesn't need full concentration.
Whether you are listening for pleasure, self improvement or both, Talking Book World is the best place to get your audiobooks!
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who listens to audiobooks?
A.
Everyone! Our customers include commuters, business people, busy moms,
elderly people, people with vision problems, students—in short, anyone
who wishes they had more time to read.
Q. Where do people listen to audiobooks?
A.
In the car, on public transit, on planes, at the gym, at home, standing in
lines, walking the dog, or any time or place when you can't hold onto a
book.
Q. Is listening to audiobooks cheating?
A.
No! Despite what many people think, audiobook listeners are usually
book lovers who would like to read more, but don’t have the time.
People with learning disabilities also find audiobooks useful because
they can hear stories more easily than they could read them on the
page. If you pick an unabridged title, you won’t miss anything that’s
in the regular book, so don’t worry that you’re taking a
shortcut. Remember, for most of history people have told stories
instead of writing them down.
Q.What is an unabridged audiobook?
A.
Audiobooks are either abridged or unabridged. An unabridged
audiobook includes every single word of the book, while an abridged
audiobook has had some parts edited out to make it shorter.
Q.Who narrates audiobooks?
A.
Sometimes the author, sometimes celebrities. There are also voice
actors who make a career of reading audiobooks. For instance, you’ll see lots of
books read by Dick Hill and Barbara Rosenblatt.
Q. How can I become an audiobook reader?
A.
Audiobook narrators are cast by publishers in a process similar to the
way actors get roles. It is a coveted job and difficult to break into,
but the
Audio Publisher's Association's website
has some good tips on getting started.
Q. How long is an audiobook?
A.
You can estimate based on the number of CDs. Each CD is a little more
than an hour. Many business books are 3 CDs (or about 3 hours), while
some thrillers can be 16 CDs. It just depends on how long the original
book is and whether it has been abridged.
